A little about me!
Dear Families,
I would like to take this time to welcome you and your child to the 2019-2020 school year. I am very enthusiastic about returning for my fifth year with the Haynes family, and to see what the upcoming school year may bring. It is also at this time, that I would like to introduce myself as well as to give you a brief description of my classroom and educational philosophy. I have lived here in the San Fernando Valley for 30 years. I am happily married to my husband Scott, and have been for 18 years. We have three beautiful daughters, Chloe, Tayler, and Penelope.
As far as my educational background goes, I have received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in history from California State University of Northridge. I have 16 years previous experience teaching and/ or volunteering for preschool (3 and 4 year old),transitional kindergarten(TK), kindergarten, first grade, and fourth grade.
I feel that education helps to build the very foundation of the lives and community we live in and around. As your child’s teacher it is my goal to maintain a positive attitude towards education. I will demonstrate the ideas, beliefs, and characteristics of acceptance and patience for each individual. I will provide an organized classroom full of comfort, and open-mindedness. I will keep all communication open as well. I believe that communication is one of the main factors in providing student success as well as my own. I will be a nurturer as well as a disciplinarian. I will provide guidance and support for all the families and students I work with.
I want you to remember that I want this year to be fun and memorable. A smile translates a thousand words, and I want to encourage excitement about learning. To do this I will make sure that I always have an active role in working with administration, my peers, my mentors, the students, and you the parents to make sure that we are providing the very best educational programs. Some year-long class goals to help me guide my students to strive to do their best consist of the following, Enjoy school and have fun learning, Grow through daily academic challenges, Develop skills to become an independent reader, Develop speaking and writing skills, Come to school prepared each day, Work well with teachers and with others, Feel comfortable talking with teachers, Solve problems using a variety of strategies, Take responsibility for our own learning and behavior, Recognize our talents and dreams to help carve a path for college.
In addition to working closely with your child myself on a daily basis, classroom volunteers will be greatly appreciated by both teachers and the students. We will also have a great staff teaching students music, and physical education.
To help me keep open communications with you all year, I will have different means of corresponding . Any notes written by me will be sent via your Child’s folder. Please check it daily and I will do the same for communications from you. You can also reach me via e-mail at [email protected]. You can also keep up with our class news and information here, through my class website which will be updated weekly. I will try to check my email daily before school and at some point during the day so I can get back to you as soon as possible. I will do my best to always respond within 24 hours of your message.
I am looking forward to working with you and your child this school year. I encourage you to take an active role in your child’s education, and know that our collaboration will provide your child and his/her peers with the optimum classroom environment.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Melissa Gallegos
